Fokker DVII in Poland

The Polish air force put around fifty of Fokker DVII s into service. Some were captured during anty German uprising in Wielkopolska in 1919, circa 20 were bought from Germany ( mainly from Albatros AOW factory ) and circa 20 were bought in France. Fokker D VII s were used in combats by 2 squadrons which were fighting Bolshevik troops, including Budionny;s cavalery units. Aerial encounters with enemy were very few. Airplane on the picture is Fokker D VII 502/18 which was bought by polish private company from Alabatros factory in Berlin. This machine was one of airplanes build in last serie of production which was never send to war. It was used by 15 Fighter's Squadron during Polish -Bolshevik war 1920. The airplane get some rare modifications - instead of Spandau - two Vickers machine gun were assembled. Fokker was fitted with racks for transporting two bombs ( 12.5 kg ) Pilot - which was veteran of Great War - fighting in German Air Force , and was awarded with Iron Cross decided to paint black white Chevron on fuselage which symbolised ribbon of Iron Cross order.
