Albatrosses in Turkey

At the beginning of the Great War, the Ottoman Empire had only five aircraft and six pilots. Subsequently, in 1915, a group of German and Turkish aviators were exchanged between the respective air forces. With the help of its German and Austrian allies, the Ottoman air forces rapidly expanded. Some 450 aircraft served in the Turkish Army during the war, many piloted by Germans.
Albatros D3 model began to be deployed in Turkey in March 1918. Until October 1918, Germany supplied 29 planes of this model, 10 of which were without engines. They remained in service until 1922 and they participated in the Turkish War of Liberation. Two planes of the upgraded model, D4, were brought to Turkey near the end of the war.
